The Illogical Logic of Guns

The Illogical Logic of Guns

The Illogical Logic of Guns

Since the aftermath of the Newtown, Connecticut massacre in 2012, Wayne LaPierre, the head of the NRA, called on Congress to place armed law enforcement Officers in every American school.  Per CBS News “The NRA’s position was that having guns in schools, rather than having tougher gun laws, would most effectively protect children from any more school shootings.”

With this travesty and every other mass shooting, the NRA has remained resolute with its solution to gun violence… Put more guns on the street to protect us from the bad guys.

Perhaps the most armed security force in the US is our Secret Service, who is charged with protecting our President and other leaders including Mr. Trump, Mr. Vance and Ms. Harris.

Yet with all the firepower and intelligence imaginable they could not stop one lunatic with an assault weapon from almost killing Mr. Trump.

And our fine members of Congress ask “how could a person with a rifle could get close enough to Mr. Trump to take him out”.

The answer is so simple it defines logic.  Mr. Crooks had an assault weapon.

So where was the failure in protecting Mr. Trump? Perhaps in a few places: yes, there may have been some lapse in security. But in the end, the shooter was dead lass than a minute after he started shooting- and his intended target escaped, virtually unhurt.

And the failure also rests with Congress for failure to pass reasonable legislation to protect its citizens.  With the same zeal that the Republican minority desires to use the 14 Amendment to ban all abortions, Congress could use the same path to give our Secret Service and law enforcement agencies a chance to curb the proliferation of guns that are designed only to kill – they could and should get them off the streets.

Rather than deal with facts and definitive actions, Congress once again looked  for and found a scapegoat.

Instead of patting themselves on the back for forcing the resignation of Kimberly Cheatle, Director of the Secret Service, the House Committee on Oversight should all resign for gross incompetence.

At the time the shooting in Sandy Hook, CT I was a paraprofessional and my two kids were attending grade school and middle school in a Connecticut district. Having said all this, guns don’t hurt people; it’s the people with the guns that hurt people.

I’ve grown up with guns in my family home as a kid and was taught how to safely handle, put away(locked), and to safely shoot a gun. My kids at grade school level was also taught how to shoot a gun safely. We would go to shooting ranges as well.

To this day, as my two are young adults; there are no guns of any sort in our home. They still know how to properly and safely shoot a gun. So that is my take on or logic on guns.
