ROBO- CALL-HELL!!!

q

ROBO- CALL-HELL!!!

The phone rings, the pleasantries begin with “hello” or “are you there”, then comes the little “BLEEP”.

With that little sound, you are transferred around the world to God-only-knows-where and “Telemarketing Hell!!!!”  begins.

Someone starts the pitch:

“This is Anthony (or Samuel, or Elizabeth or some other heavily accented, but equally innocent sounding Americanized name).  You are eligible for Medicare supplemental insurance?” or

“You are now eligible for final care insurance to protect your loved ones after your time has come” or sometimes

“Our record show you were in an accident and are entitled too….”

– Boy, there must be a lot of folks all having recent accidents. Then there is Blah-Blah-Blah or something that sounds this way because of the noise of hundreds of others saying the same thing into other calls preying on the  unsuspected going on in the background.

This is not just a one-off call.  You get 15-20 calls a day or more on a quiet day.

What’s a person to do?

  • Ask nicely to be removed for the list,
  • Hang up
  • Tell them you have coverage
  • Tell them you are not interested
  • Scream profanity at them
  • Or… what?

These thieves are relentless and do not stop.

Many times I have hung up and dialed these “fine and caring” people right back only to find the number that called me mysteriously does not work.

These unscrupulous companies often prey on elder in the hopes of getting PII (“Personal Identifiable Information”) or even worse, credit card information. These scams are costing us billions of dollars, defrauding our seniors, our mothers and fathers as well as our financial institutions.

These thieves and their calls do not stop with the end of The Medicare open enrollment season, now final expenses, internet services and  even home improvement scams… CONGRESS CAN DO MORE AND THEY MUST DO SO.  Mandated Do Not Call registries do not work and are not the answer.  The telecommunication companies can identify spam, they can also do more to manage this, but they choose not to do so, as they make money providing these telecom services to the scammers.

Just a thought as I am the dumb guy

This is not only seniors getting those annoying calls. People a tad bit younger than seniors are getting robo calls hand over fist every other day. It is seriously annoying and every time I block one number there is another robo call coming through.
